Minstrel Recording Studio

 

Minstrel Recording has evolved over the course of nearly 15 years. Needless to say the success of the studio is attributable to Iowa Citys' incredible music scene. From it's early inception in a basement on the north side of Iowa City, musicians all styles have supported the growth of the studio. Many aspiring recording engineers have had their chance to get first hand experience in recording engineering by recording their favorite bands or lending a hand in professionally staffed sessions. Now, the new space has hit it's 4 year mark and welcomes Justin Kennedy to the enginnering helm along with John Svec. It too was a product of volunteer contributions in the form of hours of hard labor by many in Iowa Citys' local music community. The Englert Theater project donated some of its left over building materials during it's initial removal and cleanup project. We have all of them to thank! From framing to drywalling to insulating to painting, many came out in support of building the first comfortable and professional recording environment for our community.
